PROJECTS

School of Naval Engineering

Naval Engineering School in Mar del Plata, Argentina

The project is a School of Naval Engineering, located at Mar del Plata, Argentina. The concept of the building is about bonding, bridging, and connecting together different spaces and conditions. A wall divides the site into two different conditions; one where you have the beach and the other where the naval and industrial area is located. These two conditions provide the opportunity to organize program specific to the site. The building is separated into these two sides with the cultural program on the beach front while the educational and naval area is on the port side. However, through internal circulation these spaces are all connected and are visible to one another from various standpoints. This allows students to learn, work, and experience being at the port all at the same time; where they can interact with all the activities connected with the naval industry. Since the cultural area is also separated from the educational area, this allows it to not interrupt the school and can be open for the public at certain times. The building is also elevated so it provides access for trucks to pass through the site, as well as for the future, to protect the building from flooding.

Contemporary Art Museum

Las Vegas, Nevada

The concept of the project is to connect two opposite conditions that make up Las Vegas and explore the transition that occurs between them. The first condition represents the loud and active lifestyle of the strip, while the second condition characterizes the quiet and calm of the residential areas. These two conditions are shown both formally and programmatically in the Museum.
As you enter the building through the exaggerated spaces, you find yourself on the ground floor which makes up the ‘loud’ part of the building. If you choose to explore this floor, you will find program spaces such as the café, auditorium, classrooms, banquet hall and outdoor seating areas. If you choose to go straight to the museum galleries, then as you enter from the main entrance where the reception is located, you will see a marble grand staircase transitioning you to the ‘quiet’ part of the building. Here you can enjoy walking through the gallery exhibition spaces, while concentrating only on the art. After exploring the three floors of artwork, you reach the end destination of the rooftop where you are once again reminded of where you are in Las Vegas, and can enjoy the wonderful view of the site.
Another important aspect of the project is extending Symphony Park by creating a void through the building as an extension of the outdoor public park environment. This void can continue to future projects, which are located along the site of where the project is located in. This way the museum invites a wide range of diversity and aims to bring together everyone from all over the world, to enjoy the variety of activities taking place.

Aqua City

Athletic Center

The shear walls form the massing of the Aqua City. They are oriented diagonal to separate SW from the NE in order to provide natural heating and cooling. The program is divided so that the part that needs natural heating will be on the SW part of the building and the program that needs more cooling is on the NE side of the building. The walls also block the noise from the freeway, and disconnect the urban life from the nature. They divide the space and separate the program to provide privacy. Each shear wall also serves for different purposes: one is a kayak storage, the other one has a water feature, the other one serves as screen for a waterfront view, one includes showers and the HVAC program, and another one collects the rain water and also includes the HVAC program. The Aqua City program includes one large indoor athletic pool and an outdoor pool. There is also a coffee shop, learning center, classrooms, and gym. It also includes locker rooms, showers, bathrooms and a kayak storage. The bike path is intentionally shifted to go through the shear walls so that the bikers get close to the building and experience the material, purpose and massiveness of those walls.

Drone-O-Drome

Vertical Warehouse

Technology has a huge impact on our lives and every innovation is intended to make the human life comfortable. In the near future shipping and receiving goods with the help of new technology such as drones will be made within a few hours or minutes. The project investigates the operations of warehouse technologies to create a system that applies to the future of e-commerce through vertical warehouse typology. The site is located in Hollywood. It is where drone flight operations take place delivering goods within 10 mile radius. There are four ramps that are connected to the building where two rams are for the trucks to deliver the goods to the warehouse and the other two ramps are for the long distance deliveries and connect to Vermont street. The building responds to the idea of creating an aviation airfield for drones as well as bringing the gardens back that once exited in the site. The land that was removed for the construction of the building is reused to design the landscape for public use. It includes garden areas as well as bazar trading area. The Drone-O-Drome has a vertical and horizontal lift distributed circulation that takes each package to the specific storage (large, medium, small, refrigerated). It includes an atrium where mechanical lifts and elevators are located that connect all the program together with bridges and conveyors. The building is a futuristic warehouse that is made with steel structure. The structure is design to lift the storages space from the ground and create public space at the bottom.

Work Project

Project Tagline

Here are some of the projects I have worked on at Zohrabians Architects & Builders Inc. (Previously known as Dunamis Architects). Responsibilities included: 2D CAD drawings including floor plans, elevations, roof plans and site plans for single family and multi-family projects. Then proceeded with 3D modeling and rendering presentations.
